HOORAY for the Blue and Gray.. pfffffttttttttt

I dont usually do the Meme's but this one, sent by readhead_sue was just irresistable. I popped in a couple of pictures to make it real.

For Me it was 1973. The hippie era was winding down. The anti war movement was in full swing and Watergate was front page. I hated Nixon and everything he stood for. I was politically active and adored Gloria Steinham. My friends brothers were dying in Nam and others were leaving the US to keep from getting sent there. It was a year full of activity.

1. Who was your best friend? There were three of us which is NEVER EVER a good idea. Taryn, Kathy and Me. Taryn and I still touch base now and then.
2. What sports did you play? I wasn’t into sweating which is too bad because if I had been maybe the answer to #22 would be different.

3. What kind of car did you drive? I got My car last of all My friends but I adored it like it was alive and breathing. It was a used baby blue Toyota corolla complete with air conditioning and an 8 track tape player. We LIVED in it and gas was 35 cents a gallon. But weed was only 15 bucks an ounce too so go figure.

4. It's Friday night, where were you? Cruising in my car with friends in the early evening on the 11th St which was the drag. It had a no light traffic circle at the end of it so people would just endlessly cruise until they found who or what they were looking for. Then we would find a party. Friday night’s usually included some kind of hallucinogen, our favorite was mushrooms. What can I say it was the year before we pulled out of Viet Nam and drugs were a part of life.

5. Were you a party animal? I think #4 answered this one

6. Were you considered a flirt? Yes, If I tried to lie, anyone that has talked to Me for more than three minutes would bust Me. Taryn and Kathy used Me to draw in the guys with My skills. Taryn was prettier so they would talk to Me first, see her and POOF. It’s ok, She was a real bitch and I knew it was only a matter of time before they turned to Me.

7. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir? I would NEVER have participated in school sanctioned activities. That was for what we called “rah rah’s”. I did write for the school paper, Populi Verbum, but I spent more time on the carpet for the pieces I wrote than I did writing them. (psst.. I did sing in a garage band for two years... that money funded the party animal answer above.)

8. Were you a nerd? No, but they intrigued Me and I hung out with them a lot. I took the virginity of a dungeon and dragons boy nerd which is a great story. [info]jd_trouble might remember it, I think I shared it with him.

9. Did you get suspended/expelled? Once. There was a sit in to end the war. Everyone was supposed to walk out at 1 pm. You know the kind of thing that everyone says they will do but then they don’t? Well I did and they suspended Me for three days but it didn’t go on My record. A month later, I went to a REAL anti war rally in Austin, Texas at the UT campus, where I almost got My brains knocked out of My head. I was arrested and My parents, who didn’t even know I was out of town, had to drive five hours to come get Me. Imagine THAT ride home in the back seat. To this day My tummy tingles thinking of it.

10. Can you sing the fight song? Not under the worst sort of torture would I succumb to such madness as to let that song slip through My lips. (psstt.. but I know the words because of the brain washing pep rallies that were mandatory in Texas before Friday night games)

11. Who were your favorite teachers? Ms. Kirkendall who was an English teacher that everyone was afraid of. She was on Me a lot but recognized that under My smart mouth and rather flip attitude, I was a good writer. I was pretty surprised to see her come to My defense on some of those trips to the Principals office for the articles in the paper. (Psst.. the editor was one of the dungeon and dragon boys)

12. Where did you sit during lunch? Forest Park High School was a closed campus in the middle of rice fields and had a closed campus. I left anyway though almost EVERY day. I never got caught because I got a hold of the schedule of the Southern Pacific railroad that used to trap lunch leaving offenders and make them late.

13. What was your school's full name? Forest Park High School

14. School mascot? This answer is funny. We were the Trojans. Our Mascot was this atrocious Roman Warrior named Egor that they used to try and make the Freshmen bow down to. AS IF… Anyway… years later My son asked Me about our Team name. When I told him, he said you had a CONDOM as a Mascot….. times DO change…. lol

15. Did you go to Senior Prom? Yes, with a boyfriend that was home from the UT campus. They made us leave because his hair was down his back.

16. If you could go back and do it over, would you? HELL NO! Once is quite enough thank you!

17. What do you remember most about graduation? My graduation was strange. My parents moved a month before I graduated so I had to get an apartment so I could finish out the year there. Things were starting to go downhill for My parents. Not a good time for that to happen. I think it’s the MOST important time in your life to have strong guidance.

18. What was your fav. class? It’s a toss up between English and Journalism.

19. Where were you on senior skip day? Actually, I couldn’t take advantage of Senior Skip day because I missed so much school that semester that they said I wouldn’t graduate if I missed any days between March and graduation. I thought that was ridiculous since I had a 3.8 GPA but when you got the power you got the power and I had to dance to their tune.

20. Did you have a job your senior year? Yes.. I worked the front desk at the hotel My dad managed until they moved.

21. Where did you go most often for lunch? We went to my friend Ruthie’s house. She lived close. Everyone else would smoke a little before they went back to school but I never did. I have never liked not being in control. I did my fair share of smoking but never when I had things to accomplish.

22. Have you gained weight since then? Yes. My weight until I had My first baby was a size 2. After that my weight has yo yoed. I now know that I have a serious thyroid problem, woulda been nice to know that earlier.

23. What did you do after graduation? Everyone went back to My apartment since I had moved into it before graduation.
24. When did you graduate? 1973

25. Who was your Senior prom date? Freddie Hashop He was older and I idolized him. I still get hot when I think of him.
26. Are you going to your 10 year reunion? I did and that was it.. never again…. I was so bored

27. Who was your home room teacher? I don’t remember. I didn’t really wake up until 9 am.
